DICKENS' BIRTHDAY.

FELLOWSHIP CELEBRATES.

The president and committee of the Auckland Dickens Fellowship entertained the members at a garden party, given at the homo of Mrs. J. W.' Kealy, St. Helier's Bay, on Saturday afternoon. The function was in celebration of the anniversary of the birthday of Charles Dickens, and the reception rooms had been artistically decorated with blue hydrangeas and lycopodium by Mrs. M. Free. On their arrival the guests were received by the president, Mr. T. Clarkson, and Mrs. Clarkson, the latter wearing a frock of floral crepe, with a navy blue sash, and navy straw hat. During the afternoon the guests wandered around the lovely garden, which was looking particularly attractive. Large coloured umbrellas had been erected on the lawns, and contributed attractive splashes of colour. Tra was served at siha.ll tables set out under the trees, and garden lovers were able to enjoy the charming lily pond and the rock gardens, which had may rare species. A Maori cooking demonstration, arranged by Mrs. Rewa Bennett, proved very interesting, and musical items were given by Miss Jean Clarkson, Miss Helen Gray, and Miss Lilian O'Leary, and Mr. Moreton Smith. Mrs. Smith acted as accompanist. Members of the committee present were: Mrs. Preston Chambers, convener, Miss M. Robinson, Messrs. Townley L,ttle, R. J. Lusher, J. W. Kealy, Preston Chambers, G. Cruickshank, D. A. Neal, T. Vivian, and the Rev. C. E. Perkins.
