TE PUKE SHEEP FAIR.

MOST SUCCESSFUL SALE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE PUKE, Saturday. Fully 18,000 sheep were offered at the Te Puke sheep fair, conducted by the Loan and' Mercantile Co., yesterday, which was the largest and most successful sale ever held in this district. Buyers were present from Rotorua, Paeroa, Thames and other localities. Clearances were effected at satisfactory prices., one pen of ewes realising 21/0. There was particularly pood demand for fat lambs and ewoa and all classes of fat sheep. About 2000 were bought by exporters. The drafts offered were of a line, healthy type. Rams offered by Mr. Harbutt averaged about Tigs, aiid those from Levin Ogs. Many of the sheep were bought by local farmers, showing that the sheep industry is now commencing to make headway in this district. Great difficulty was experienced in obtaining suflicient (nicks from the Railway Department, and the hot weather increased the difficulty of holding sheep in the vards for aiiv length of time.
