VISIT TO SYDNEY.

STOWAWAY ON AORANGI. LABOURER TO PAY FINK OF £10. Having gone to Sydney from Wellington a month ago with £20 in his pocket, James Gray Wheohm, a labourer, aged 2(1, returned to Auckland this mornili" penniless, and as a stowaway on board the Aorangi. He appeared before Mr. W. K. lieKean, S.M.. in the Police Court and pleaded guilty to the resultant charge of stowing away on the liner at Sydney last Thursday. Senior Sergeant Flanagan eaid Wheelan was a native of Scotland and had resided in Wellington for seven years. Early in January he paid his fare to Sydney by the Marama and had £20 when ho wa'lked ashore. He lost some of this money and was unable to secure employment, so he decided to return io New Zealand by stowing away. Wheelan walked aboard the Aorangi, and when the ship cleared Sydney reported himself to the officers. The amount of the fare was £7 10/. Wheelan had no money and no relatives in the Dominion.

A line of £10. in default 14 daye imprisonment, was imposed.
