FOXTON BEACH SCARE.
OCCUPANTS LEAVE HOUSES. FOXTOJT, Saturday. Residences on the river foreshore at Foxton Beach were threatened with destruction by fire last night when two fires occurred, one at 9 o'clock and the other at 2 a.m. The occupants left the buildings in their night attire. No water supply was available, and vegetation was dry as tinder. Fortunately the night was calm, and beaters were able to cope with the spread of the flames. Both buildings are insured, and are owned by Mr. Pedersen, of Himatangi, and Mr. Turner, of Palmerston North.
