THE ANNUAL MEETING. BARN DANCE WINS CUP. KIXG SLIGHT PAYS BIG DIVIDEND. Tlic annual meeting of tlic Matamata Racing Club was held at JJatamata on Saturday. The weather was fine at the commencement, but half May through the. prpgraniruc the sky clouded over and rain set in, and it continued showery for'tlic rest of the afternoon. The fall, however, was not enough to interfere with the meeting, though it made conditions somewhat unpleasant for patrons. There was a good attendance) and the totaasator handled !£12.C05 10/. compared with £11,800, an increase of £820 10/. Barn Dance won the Hack Cup all the way, while Lucidua accounted for the Walton Handicap after being in front throughout. These were the only two favourites to score'. King Flight created a surprise when he narrowly won the Putaruni Stakes, paying over four score. Won All The Way. When the field paraded for the Matamata Hack Cup King Hoy, Bonnie (Jay, Valcuir and Boat Song were missing, and the chief fancies were Barn Dance, Gay Rose and Air Lassie, tlic first-named winning all the way. As they ruccd past the stand Barn Dance had charge from Nun Nicer, Ford Acre, First Lap, Valpai and Air Lassie, with Don't Lap and-. Gay lxose next. Along the back Barn.. Dance was attended by Valpai. Ford .Acre and First Lap; then came Don't Lap, Air Lassie and Nun Nicer. Crossing-the top . Barn Dance was well clear of Ford Acre, First Lap and Don't Lap, -with Valpai, Nun Nicer, Air Lassie and Gay Rose following. The order was tho same into the straight and Barn Dance, won decisively by a length from Gay. Rose, who finished very fast, with First Lap a neck away. Nun Nicer was fourth, followed , by Ford Acre, Don't Lap and Valpai, with Air Lassie last. Wirilon unseated her rider while dojng her preliminary and as she received slight injuries was withdrawn from the race. ■;, A Close Finish. Defections in the Railway Hack Handicap were Miss Lorraine, High Tea and Firebrick. , , Betting was brisk and when the-machine closed Mazir, Wahinc R'cihi and Kilberis carried most money, but an outsider in Miss Lu won after a close finish from .Royal Dance. Valreina got away badly and Miss Lu led out from Koyal Dance, Kilberis, Engi, Royal Secret, Keith Lu and Mazir. Crossing the top Miss Lu and Royal Dance were showing the way to Wahine lleihi, Engi, Keith i.u, Kilberis, Royal Secret, Mazir and Respectful. Whirling was first out from Raeela, Fast Acre, Routine Flush, Winlona, King Flight and Brilliant Acre. Winlona was in charge entering the •traight, followed by Fast Acre, Prince Ven, • King Flight, and Whirling. King Flight did best in the run home to win by a nose from Whirling, with Winlona half a length away. Prince Ven was fourth, then came Fast Acre, Routine Flush, Taiaha and Raeela. There was only £8 invested on the winner on the win machine, and he returned a dividend amounting to well ever four score. Lucidus Wins Walton. There were only five runners in the Walton Handicap and Lueidus and Lady Spy carried the bulk of the money, the former winning nicely. AVhen the field had settled down Lucidus had charge, and led along the back from Lady Spy, Hampton Park and Prince Colossus, with Alloy last, i Hampton Park and Lucidus were on terms crossing the top, with Prince Colossus close up, followed by Lady-'Spy and Alloy. They came into tbe straight in that order, and Lueidus drew out in the run to the post to win by half a length -from Prince Colossus, with' Lady Spy third. Alloy and Hampton Park were next.

First Lap at Last. The withdrawals from the Okoroire Handicap were Spearcourt, Koyal Winton, Air Lassie, First Dance and Valreina, and when the final figures were adjusted Bonny Gay, Valcuir and First Lap had most friends. Swift Spear led Bonny Gay, Royal Secret and Giimeetor over the first furlong, and the order into the straight was Crimestor, Swift Spear. Royal Secret, Royal Dash and Bonny Gay, with First Lap moving up. The last-named finished fast and got the verdict by one and a half lengths from Royal Dash, with Royal Secret half a length away.
