ACCUSED IN BOX.
Hauptmann Undergoes "Dress Rehearsal." AN ALIBI CLAIMED. NEW YORK, January 25. The trial was continued at Flemington, New Jersey, of Bruno Richard Hauptmann, on the charge of murdering the infant son of Colonel and Mrs. Charles Lindbergh. Accused entered the witness-box, but was given only a "dress rehearsal" at the outset, to accustom him to the experience. Christian Frederickson, baker, at whose shop Mrs. Hauptmann worked, was asked whether Hauptmann had come to his bakery to take his wife home on the night of the kidnapping. He replied: "I think Hauptmann was there, but I cannot swear to it." After Frederickson's evidence accused returned to the witness-box a few minutes before the Court adjourned. Under Mr. Reilly's questioning he insisted that he had an alibi for the night when the ransom was paid. He said he went home at 6 p.m. and spent the evening with his wife and several friends playing musical numbers. He never left the house.
Accused did not advance an alibi for the night of the kidnapping.
