SHIPS COLLIDE.
DEAD AND MISSING. Ward Vessel Sunk Off Coast Of New Jersey. ILL-FATED LINE. United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyrlebt* (Received 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, January 25. The steamer Mohawk (8000 tons) under charter to the Ward Line, collided with the Norwegian motor ship Talisman off New Jersey last night and sank half an hour aftei\the 53 passengers and 107 members of the crew had taken to the lifeboats. Fifteen bodies were recovered and 37 are missing from the Mohawk. A later report stated that Captain Joseph Wood was believed to be among the missing. The Mohawk was the property of the Clyde Line and normally was in the New York-Texas service. She was making her first New York-Havana-Mexico trip for the Ward Line to replace the Havana, which ran aground at Nassau on January 0. The scene of last night's collision was near where the Morro Castle, also a Ward liner, was burnt oil March 0, last year. The Talisman, which was en route from Baliia to Brazil, suffered little damage.
