GROOMING A STAR.
AN ENGLISH «DU BARRY." Just as Mr. Samuel Goldwyn hid Anna Sten for two years to prepare her for stardom —they call it "grooming"— so a British studio has been polishing up Grete Xatzler, who is to play the Du Barry as soon as production can be arranged.
Two years ago she went to England from Austria and appeared in the play "Casanova." When Annv Ahlers was not available to play the Du Barry, Grete was immediately chosen. She comes from a generation of great Viennese actors, and was Vienna's counterpart of Anny Ahlers in roles at the Austrian capital. With her golden hair, classic nose and laughing expression, Grete is graced with charming beauty.
She is at present receiving instruction on the pronunciation of English. Her singing and her acting should, it is said, evoke wide admiration when the film is released in the New Year. Unfortunately, her services can he retained only for "The Du Barry" production in England, as she is due in Hollywood in May.
