BETTING SYSTEMS.

In answer to "Ordinary Punter's" letter 1.wish to point out that it is not necessary to . hack a horse both ways. I usually back a horse for a win only. "Ordinary Punter" docs not seem to understand that a horse nyist win to give a fair return unless it to be an outsider. With the single-pool system the dividend returned by the second horse, if it is one of the favourites, is not worth collecting. Therefore it is a far better proposition to back for a win only, and got the benefit of the 25 per cent which would, . under the single-pool system, go on to the second horse. I quite admit that by holding its races at'Ellerslie the Takapuna Jockey Club would get a larger attendance, but in referring to tho Ellerslie Christmas races, "Ordinary Punter" forgets that it rained all day on 'the second day twelve months ago. Tho sum of £11,011 is a* very big decrease considering the first dav showed an increase of £0059, due to tho visit of His Royal Highness. Also I notice that my supporter, "Investor," is quite correct when he said that all the race meetings in New Zealand using tho win-and-place system during the Christmas and New Year holidays showed an increase, while all those using the single-pool system showed a decrease,'proving that the win-and-place system is fast coming into favour, making the single-pool system obsolete. WIN PUNTER.
