Councillor Finlnyson, a Scotsman who is clue to become Mayor of Heidelberg (Victoria) before long, strongly opposed tlm purchase of mayoral robes by the council. Ho declared that ho valued his kilt much more than ho did a mayoral robe. "I might decide to wear my kilt at council meetings, church parades and public functions," he said, "and I might strongly object to the kilt being subjected to the awful indignity of being covered by the., folds of a mayoral robe." The council decided to buy robes —complete with lace cuffs, price £30. »
