NEW DEVICE TESTED.
LOADING OF CHILLED BEEP,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Wednesday,
A device to expedite the loading of chilled beef into ships, invented by Captain A. Black, of Wellington, has been tested here during the past two days in loading chilled beef into the new motor freighter Waiwera.
The device is in the form of a loading cage about six feet square at the base and about seven in height, with specially insulated zinc Avails. Beef quarters are transferred from railway trucks to the cages, and then conveyed to the chilled chambers in the ship by means of cranes. During Jeavy rain yesterday loading proceeded without interruption.
