CONTROL BOARD AFFAIRS,

CHAIRMAN'S OPTIMISTIC REVIEW,

At the final official meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Board ot' Control, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, the main business concerned the use of Carlaw Park in the summer, during which tinte the ground is likely to be in considerable demand for special sports meetings, cricket and other special gatherings under the control of the various promoters. It was reported that the complete electric lighting scheme was installed, and the park generally was in splendid order. !A vote 'of thanks was accorded Air. F. j.;. McEwan, the Ponsonby Club treasurer, sfor Jijg work in connection with the lighting facilities. « * An inviation from the \ .M.C.A. sports secretary, Mr. J. -C. Herbert, for representatives of the Rugby League to attend a dinner being tendered to Auckland sports bodies engaged in the; conduct of games for the development of youth in the city, was accepted. Letters of condolence issued in connection with the deaths of Messrs. A. Carlaw (late of Christchurch) and E. S. ■Taylor, an Auckland honorary ground member, were confirmed. , Air Campbell took opportunity to thank his colleagues on the board for their assistance in administrative matters during the season. He also expressed appreciation of the work of Mr. Wilkie as chairman of the junior management. He added that when the balance-sheet was issued later in the year it would be found that the A R.L. was in an improved position financially, and the next season could be faced with every confidence. He mentioned several points that would require careful consideration for the coming year. Members thanked the chairman for his vision and capable leadership. The board subsequently made a general inspection of Carlaw laik.
