MOTOR SPEED "TRAPS."

INSPECTOR'S EXPERIENCE.

At the Otahuhu Borough Council last night the traffic inspector, Air. A. Breed, reported on complaints he had received regarding cyclists without lights and the viced of motor cars through the township. He said he had found the position not nearly as bad as it might appear. Tuesday and Thursday evenings were sports nights at Papatoetoe and Otahuhu respectively, and great numbers of cyclists attended them. He had noticed quite a number approaching him walking, and it might be that after getting out of sight tliey mounted their cycles. The only way to apprehend these offenders was to have several men stationed at different points. "Action will be taken with reference to the speed of mo'ir '-chicles through the area in front of the Council Chambers," said the inspector. "I was under the impression that the speed of cars in this area was excessive some considerable time ago, with the result that I had a trap put down in this aVea. After working the trap for some time I was quite convinced that the speeds were not so fast as they appeared. I have again worked tliis.tran for the past fortnight, and have not in one instance clocked a motor vehicle exceeding HO m.p.li.

"It may be that a considerable number of motorists, who arc always on the look-out for traps, slow down when they sec one, as 1 always work the traps in uniform." The report was received as satisfactory.
