TE AWAMUTu'S BIG STORM.
[ Since Monday, Te Awamutu and district have experienced heavy downpours of rain, and the Pukeatua district got a great deal more than its share. In places the hail was so heavy and the stones so large, that a fall lasting only a few minutes made a carpet of hail quite 2in deep. At the far end of Pukeatua a vivid display of lightning, accompanicd by loud crashes of thunder, was witnessed at. four o'clock on Monday afternoon, and within an hour the worst storm in the recollection of old residents had been experienced. Homesteads were shaken, causing considerable alarm to the inmates, and cowsheds were severely buffeted. The noise alarmed the dairy cows, some of which fell down in their fright and lashed out at the milkers in their endeavour to get free. To make matters worse the electric supply was interrupted.
