AUSTRALIAN LAMB TRADE.

With botli the Adelaide and Portland markets available, a remarkable growth of the Australian fat lamb trade is taking place in South Australia and Victoria. This is particularly evident at Narracoorte, where figures obtained, from the local agent of T. Borthwick and Sons show that, although only 100 were railed four years ago, and 1700 in 1032, more than 10,000 left the district last year, and this year's total is expected to exceed 13,000. It is esti-1 mated , that the lambi; forwarded to Portland from the whole south-east will be about 60,000 this year. The success of local breeders lias been achieved by the introduction of British rams, and the development of pastures, principally subterranean, clover and "VVimmera ryegrass. The prices realised this year ranged from 16/6 to IS/ at the railheads.
