COMPANY AFFAIRS.

WELLINGTON MEAT CO. Pi;OFITS FOR THE YEAR. The directors of tlie Wellington Meat Export Co., Ltd., in their report for the year ended September 30, 1934, state that after providing £15,000 for depreciation there remains a profit of £4169 10,9. Revenue was £24,452, less insurance and repairs, £1856. The directors intend to put preference shareholders a proposal whereby the postponed prefel - j cnce dividends and that for tlie period | just closed might be liquidated. To allow of this it is necessary lor ordinary shareholders to authorise a retransfer of profits from the appropriation account, and a resolution to that effect will be submitted j to tlie annual meeting. The' retiring i directors, Sir William D. Hunt and ill'. A. E. Mabin, offer themselves for I re-election. ASHBURTON GAS COMPANY. 111". R. Clark, chairman of the Ashburton Gas Co.. informed shareholders at the annual meeting that, as anticipated, further improvement in the company's finances had been achieved during the year. This confirmed the success of the policy adopted by the directors. The company's affairs were now on a satisfactory basis, both financially and otherwise. Never in its history had tlie company occupied such a strong financial position. Tito keenness of the investing public to secure shares at a most satisfactory premium was a clear indication that the administration of the company's affairs had met with approval. Having now protected the capital invested, it was the intention of the directors to consider the consumers of gas. It was unanimously decided at the last meeting to reduce the price of gas as from January, 1935. Maintenance work had not been so heavy as last year. Cookers, combinations, and water heaters were still in public favour, and the consumption of gas had been well maintained.
