MIGRATION SCHEME.
READY FOR MR. iVIacDGNALD. SOLUTION OF UNEMPLOYMENT. (By Telegraph.—-Press Association.) WELLING TON, Wedncsda y. A scheme to promote migration from Great Britain to New Zealand wiH lie submitted to Mr. Malcolm Mac Donald, Under-Secretary of Dominion Affairs, who is now in Australia, when he visits the Dominion shortly. The proposals were discussed at a conference held in Wellington to-day under the auspic°s of the Dominion Settlement Association.
The meeting decided that any schema organised must comply with the following essentials: —(1) Assist in the solution of the present unemployment problems; (2) provide for a rigid selection and training of migrants in the country of origin.
It was stated that increased population would assist primary and secondary industries by increasing the internal markets of each, decrease the individual burden of taxation by ensuring a full utilisation of railways, roads, hydroelectric schemes and sharing in the cost of Government, provide for the adequate defence of the country and ensure the full development of the agricultural and industrial resources of New Zealand.
It was stated tlita the British Government has at present a sum of £1.i,000,000 set aside for development under the Empire Settlement Act. %
