GAMES ON SUNDAY
BISHOP'S APPROVAL. PROFESSIONAL TENDENCY. OBJECTION TO PAYMENT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, tli is day. Preaching in St. John's Church last evening, Bishop Cherrington made special reference to the playing of games on a Sunday and payment to those participating in similar pastimes. 11l his opinion, the bishop said, there was no harm in playing a game of tennis on Sunday. If it was right to do so on Monday there was no objection to playing on Sunday. He stressed, however, the necessity for observing religious obligations and deprecated the tendency by many to make work of their pastime instead of treating it as amusement and to receive payment above ordinary expenses for participation in it.
