PENNANT BOWLING.

FIRST ROUND RESULTS. MOKE KINKS NO HARDSHIP. EMPIRE GAMES IX SYDNEY. (By TRUNDLER.) Delightful weather conditions favoured the first round of the pennant matches on Saturday, when there -were more players copipeting than have ever before taken part in any howling contest in the Dominion. In addition to the 1302 playing in the pennant, 192 more than last year, there were about 200 engaged in unofficial inter-clubs, and yet the fine day attracted such a large attendance that most greens had a substantial surplus taking part in purely club games. The large, increase on last year had put the selectors on their mettle, and there was great curiosity- as to the fate of the fifteen clubs who had ventured to enter a large number of rinks. On this account the tabulated results are displayed- in a different fashion this time. There are first the usual four columns for each club, showing the number of riaks engaged, the number of wins and losses fa tie counting for half a win), and the resulting percentage of wins. In' order to show clearly how each club fared in comparison with last year, there is then given the number of rinks they | played last .season, the percentage of wins in the opening round, and the percentage when all the five rounds were complete. The above table saves the necessity to comment on any individual performance, for the members of each club will see at a glance that in section A five of the ten clubs playing with a larger quota actually came out of the first round with a larger percentage on the new quota than they obtained on the smaller quota last year. The proportion is not so good in section B, but none of the more highly graded clubs are much behind the position they held by the time the fifth round was played last and even if they were there is all the compensating satisfaction that they are this year adding very greatly to the pleasure of a larger number of their members. This feature will be well watched nest Saturday, when the second round is to be played.
