OUR COMPETITIONS CORNER.
GUESS THE WORDS
Here is something quite new in the way of puzzles. In some ways it resembles our old friend the crossword. The accompanying drawing shows six lines of squares and each square stands for a letter of a sixlettered word. In some of the squares circles are drawn, and this means that a vowel (that is, A, E, I, O or U) should be written there. It is the task of competitors to guess the words, definitions of which are given, below. To show you exactly what is meant we will supply the answer to the first question. The word is "kennel," and as you see, each vowel is given in its right place.
Here are the clues:— (1) Fido's home. (2) Relating to a choir. (3) Used on the roads. (4) Holy. (5) A god of the ancients. (6) Often ridden. Fill in all the squares, pin to your entry a slip of paper on which is written your full name, address and age, and post it in order to reach Peter Pan, care "Star" Office, Shortland Street, Auckland, before Saturday next. Eight half-crown prizes will be awarded the neatest correct entries received, the winners being announced in the Young Folk's Budget of November'2l.
