PARUA BAY ROAD.
£900 CONTRIBUTION WANTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Friday. Something in the nature 'of a bombshell was dropped by the Public Works Department at the Whangarei County Council meeting to-day, when it requested a contribution of £900 from the council and the settlers concerned before proceeding with the metalling and forniation of the Parua Bay-Pataua Road. The matter was taken up by the council with Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., who advised that provided the settlers found £300 and the council £50, the remainder of the estimated expenditure of £2500 would be made available and the work put in hand as relief work. To this the council replied that, while it was .prepared to find £50, the settlers, owing to the low price of butterfat, were unable to contribute. Mr. Murdoch was asked to take the matter up again with the Minister.
