CABINET CRISIS.
I POSITION IN CANADA. I OTTAWA, October 28. ! The resignation of Mr. H. H. Stevens, : Minister of Commerce, has precipitated a Cabinet crisis which may lead to a dissolution and an immediate election. After a conference with the GovernorGeneral, the Earl of Bessborough, Mr. R. B. Bennett, Prime Minister, refused to make a statement. The Cabinet twice assembled and twice dispersed without a statement being issued. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King, is touring in Europe, but tlie Liberals expect he will return at once. Manitoba retail merchants have telegraphed to Mr. Bennett urging that Mr. Stevens' resignation be not accepted, and urging even further investigations into departmental chain stores,
