Owing to the strong current the centre . of the stream gave an advantage in all the heats to the senior eights who won the centre positions. University defeated Wangamii in their heat by a quarter of a length in spite of the New Zealand "crew's strong finishing effort in an impressive performance. Smith (Waitemata) was second and Abbott (J'ctone) first in their respective heats in the handicap sculls. Abbott was defeated by two lengths in the final. WAITEMATA CLUB. The first set of trial fours for the season were rowed by the Waitemata Boating Club on Saturday, when the trophies donated by Messrs. W.
