IN 81 HOURS.
New Zealanders' Time to
Darwin.
CHANCES JEOPARDISED
(Received 2 p.m.)
LONDON*, October 20
The, time, taken by Messrs. McGregor and Walker in their flight from England to Darwin —5 days 15 hours 8 minutes — constitutes a record for a single-engincd machine, the previous one, held by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, being 7 days 4 hours 50 minutes.
The New Zca landers' actual flying time from Mildenhall to Darwin is calculated at 81 hours 40 minutes. They had an excellent chance of winning the handicap race, which, however, must be reduced considerably by last night's delay owing to dust storm* and the forced landing.
A later message from Charloville states that the New Zcalanders arrived at Cloncurry at 10.14 a.m. They have not vet left there.
