BANDS CONTEST.
WINNERS AT TIMARIT.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Sunday. The Canterbury provincial bands contest was. held at Goraldine yesterday. Five bands competed in the B and C grades and six in the Highland pipe section. Mr. J. Dixon, of Dnnedin, judged the brass bands and Mr. D. McIvcchnie the pipe section. Results were as follow: — Quickstep.—B grade: Ashburton Silver Band, 201 points, 1; Christchurch Municipal Band, 252] points, 2. C grade: Timaru Municipal Junior Band, 250.} points, 1; Geraldinc District Band, 241 points, 2; Ellesmere Brass Band, 229.1 points, 3. Test Selection. —13 grade: Ashburton Silver Band, 87 points, 1; Christchurch Municipal Band, 85 points, 2. C grade: Timaru Municipal Junior Band, 89 points, 1; Goraldine District Band, 82 points, 2; Ellesmere Brass Band, 78 points, 3. Pipe Band Section.—Quickstep: Ashburton County Pipe Band. 170} points, 1 ; Scottish Society of . New Zealand Band, Christchurch, 109.1 points, 2; lemuka Pipe Band, 104] points, 3. lest selection: Timaru Highland Band and the Scottish Society of New Zealand Band, 92 points each, 1; Ashburton County Band, 83 points, 3. With a handicap the Timaru Highland Band won the Ashburton County Scottish Society's shield with 343} points, the Scottish Society of New Zealand Band being second with 343 points.
