PHILISTINES' CLUB.
ORIGINAL EVENING,
The Amateur Operatic Society's hall was filled witli members and visitors on Saturday evening, when the Philistines' Club held its social entertainment. The chairman was Mrs. Nello Porter, who was responsible for the whole of An enjoyable programme. Most of the numbers were written or composed by New Zealaiulers, and the play entitled "The Amateur Wife," written by Mrs. Nello Porter, was excellently rendered by Mrs. Jack Allen, Misses Edna Craig, Edna Herrick, Messrs. Norton Hammond, Wilfred Wright and Mrs. 11. Dutton. The programme opened with an amusing item entitled "A Sermon on the Philistinel," with topical verses written by Mr. Wilfred Wright and company. Mrs. C. Towsev sang two songs entitled "Sea Love" (music by Mrs. Mary Brett Neil and words by an English poetess, Charlotte Mew), and "Autumn Morning at Cambridge" (music by Mary Brett Neil and words by Francis Cornford), and was recalled. Two songs by G. C. Lyttelton were sung by Miss Verna Wishart, and numbers written by Miss. Amy Hansard were also sung by the writer herself. Flute ducts composed by Mr. W. Henderson were played by Mr. Henderson and Mr. Carter. A violin solo was supplied by Mr. Ronald Muston, Mr. Dan Flood presented some original humour, and poi dances were supplied by Miss Edith Coughlin. Mrs. Prince and Miss Rose Kennedy acted as accompanists. Among those present were: Mesdames Tollerton, Harold Owcrs, J. William Bailey, 15. (!. Bird (Nelson), Perkins, Taylor, C. D. McLean, J. W. M.
