GOVERNMENT STOCKS STILL FIRM

Though business on the Auckland Stock Exchange lacks the keenness apparent a ■week ago, there is no sign of casing values. At this morning's call Government stocks touched a new high level, with a sale of the "55's at £113. t Move were •wanted at that ivj'.irc, but sellers had ■withdrawn. Forties, however, were available at £108 5/. and tlierc wove sellers of the 46's at £103 f>/ and of the 49's at £110 10/. In the banking section New Zwilaiuls ■were a shade easier between £2 8/G and £2 S 9, and Reserves slightly better, with the market at £0 9/3 to £0 9/6. Insurances were very firm. There were offers for all listed lines, but not a single parcel was on offer. In Australian issues Colonial Sugars ■were very firm between £07 10/ and £(3S, presumably in anticipation of another half-years accounts, and holders of Australian Glass raised their limits to £2 15/. Sanfords again improved, with buyers of the ordinary at 2/9 and of the preferences at 10/. In the mining section Waihis again showed a firm front, with buyers at £1 15/ and sellers 6d higher. Values Rise at Noon. Values moved up strongly for Government stocks during the morning, and the 1946 and 1940 issues touched new high levels. Buyers of the 49"s still remained in the market at £111 5/. Colonial Sugars reached a new record price, showing" a rise of £1 since the last sales. Offers were raised to £67 15/, but no more scrip was available. Quotations for Australian _ Provincial shares advanced sharply, with a range between 10/9 and 11/3. _ Sellers oi Standard Insurances came in at £3 12/6, after buyers had advanced 6d. Australian Glass narrowed and closed between £2 14/ and £2 14/6. Skippers were active, and were still on offer at 7d, with buyers V2II lower, following two large transfers.
