WEST ENI> CLUB. FIFTIETH ANNUAL MEETING. The fiftieth annual general meeting of the West End Rowing Clud was held in the boathouse, St. Mary's Bay, last night, when Mr. A. M. Paterson presided over a large and enthusiastic attendance 01 members. Among those present were Messrs. Alfred Herbert Jones, John Clark, J. A. Mackenzie, J. PI. Bigelow, A. M. Wilson,. W. H. Conway (life members) and J. Larder, A. M. Spencer, J. H. Cooper, A. Hunter (old members). , Mr. Paterson congratulated the members upon the success achieved last season, paying a tribute to Messrs. D. G. Stotter, captain, C. G. Herdman, secretary, and J. A. Parsons, treasurer. A vote of condolence was passed to therelatives of the late Messrs. J. 11. Maxwell (life member), John Court (vice-president), and J. B. Massey, .ill stalwart supporters of the club. , . , ; ~ Mr. John Clark congratulated the members upon the splendid report presented and said he was greatly impressed with the club's social activities and .Inter-club and regatta racing results. He urged members not to rest on their laurels, but to try to better them. . , Several veteran members endorsed Mr. Clark's remarks. .'.,■, In recognition of the splendid services he has rendered to the club Mr. J. Cardigan,, of Melbourne, was elected a life member. ... The following recommendations were carried: (1) "That this club recommends for the consideration of the Auckland Rowing. Association the following: (a) mat a maiden eight-oared race carrying a cash donation be placed on the programme ot the A.R.A. regatta this season: (b) that It be a recommendation to the 1\.&.A.b..A. from the A.R.A. that a senior club eight event be added to the N.Z.A.R.A. championship programme." (2) "That all members owing subscriptions and .dues to the club fV> season 1033-34 be prohibited from using the club plant from this date, and further failing a settlement by October 31 that their names bo posted in a conspicuous place in the clubhouse." (3) That In commemoration of the club's jubilee and for the convenience of the West End Rowing Club and residents of Ponsonby, the City Council be requested to install an electric light at the top ot the steps or public right-of-way known at Boylan Street to St. Mary's Bay." ■ A vote taken on the question of whether the new racing boat should be rigged with swivels or poppetts gave the incoming committee a guidance on- the matter. , - The election of officers resulted : Patron, Mr. A. M. Paterson (re-elected) ; president; Mr. A. C. Norden (re-elected); dents, as listed; honorary members, aslisted : captain, Mr. D. G. Stotter (reelected) ; deputy-captain, Mr. M. iH. D. Conway; assistant-deputy-captain, Mr. W. C. Parnell; honorary secretary, Mr. C. (>. Herdman (re-elected) ; assistant-honorary secrctarv, Mr. J. H; Davey; honorary treasurer, Mr. N. W. Jerrome; assistanthonorary treasurer, Mr. E. Rockel ; committee, Messrs. J. D. Craves, T. D. Brydon, J. H. Barton, E. J. McPherson, R. W. Allum; selection committee, Messrs. D. G. Stotter, J. Carder, M. 11. D. Conway; honorary auditors, Messrs. J. C. Gulliver A. M. Spencer; honorary solicitor, Mr.,, Louis rhillips; delegates A.R.A., Messrs. J. Haylock, D. G. Stotter, C. G. Ilerdmam A special vote Of thanks was passed to Mr. C. G. iHerdman, secretary, and Mr. J. A. Parsons, treasurer, for their action in returning as donations the honorariums voted them. A special vote was also passed to the outgoing treasurer for his balancesheet of last season, it being the best shown for fifty years.
