The Auckland Amateur Cycling Centre met last evening, when 15 delegates, representing the Auckland, Lynndale, Papatoetoe, Beach Haven, Manukau and Takapuna Clubs, were present. Arrangements for the 100-mile road race championship event, to be held on October 6 next, were finalised and the trophy list drawn up. The race secretary reported that he had made an accurate measurement of the whole course with a wheel revolution counter and had found that the proposed start at Drury would make the course far short of the requisite 100 miles. It was, therefore, decided to start the race at the Soldiers' Memorial Monument, just south of the Papakura township. The course will be from Papakura to Ngaruawahia, where a mile loop around the town will be traversed, and back to the Prince Edward Park at Papakura. The turns at Ngaruawahia and leading to the finishing point will be flagged. The course will bo a fraction of a mile over the 100 miles, whereas last year's course was short of the distance. Still, it is anticipated that the record time of 5h Gin 335, established by A. G. Patrick last season, will be bettered, owing to improved road conditions. Feeding stations will be at Te Kauwhata on the run up, at Ngaruawahia, where the local club will be in charge of the refreshments and checking, and at Te Kauwhata on the return. Under the rules riders accepting refreshments other than from the feeding stations or from the provisions they may carry will be liable to disqualification. Change of cycles during the race is prohibited. As no following lorry will be used this year, all riders must carry puncture outfits and all freewheel machines must be fited with two rim brakes, or one internal expanding brake. Registered numbers must be worn. A large trophy list was arranged, including a silver cup for perpetual competition, valued at £10, and medallion and Dunlop prize for fastest time, in addition to the championship sash. Entries totalling over 70 have already been received. Entries closed yesterday at single fees, but will be accepted up till Saturday next at double fees, namely, 5/.
