LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
WESTERN -SUBURBS' ARRIVAL
POINTS ABOUT THE TEAM. The Western Suburbs champion Rugby League team of Sydney, which arrived this morning by the Mariposa, had a wonderfully smooth voyage and none of the party suffered seasickness. Light training was indulged in and the players are reported fit and well, except the forward Cornwell, whose knee, injured in play last Saturday, was giving some slight trouble. The manager, Mr. J. J. White, who is secretary of the club, said it was regretted that four prominent players were unable to come, but the side' was strengthened by the inclusion? of substitutes, who, m the opinion of the State selectors, with the ten regulars, brought the tourists well up to full strength. In addition to the 17 players and manager, the tourists include Mr. J. Rubinson, a vice-president of the club. Mr. L. Marlin and the trainer, Mr. C. McFadyen, a pioneer player in the code, as well as being a prominent junior coach and ambulance man. • Mr. White stated this morning that Rugby League in Australia had experienced another very fine season. The Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) team, runners-up in the championship, was at present touring in Queensland, where it opened successfully at Toowoomba. Wests had a great farewell at Sydney and were looking forward to good matches and a happy time in New Zealand, of which they had heard such a lot from club predecessors.
