A great deal of interest is being .shown in the arrival at Auckland to-morrow by the Mariposa of Western Suburbs tram, the grand championship winners of llie JCew South Wales competition, and their opening match at Carlaw Park. They were defeated only twice in 17 matches during the season and scored 275 points to 168. Hailed as one of'"the most briiliiiiit. club combinations produced in their Rtate, the visitors will include two of the stars of the Kangaroos, who toured England and France in 1932-33. These players are the tall wing three-quarter, Alan L'idley. who was second highest scorer on the trip, and V. Hey. the meteoric halfback or five-eighths. TCidley rose to groat heights recently in Sydney when W?.>ts won the grand final. Hey is the pivot of the rearguard, and recently was rated by a well-known Australian writer ns an inside back of world prominence. There are several other State representatives in the team, which virtually is strengthened by the inclusion of P. Williams, the South Sydney half-back, who replaces Mead, and by P. Fan-all, the St. George hooker, who will substitute for Lindfield. For to-morrow's game the visitors will be opposed by the ■ Auckland Marist Old Boys' team, which is reported to be in solid training for the occasion. The home thirteen is n comparatively youna, but competent, thirteen, which rose in "the TJoone Rooster final to make n great bid for final honours. At the meeting of the council of the J\ew Zealand Rugby League last evening, with Mr. Cyril Sneddon presiding, final iirrangements were made for the arrival of Western Suburbs team of Sydney tomorrow morning by the Mariposa. There will be no official reception, in order to allow the visitors to rest prior to the match against Marists in the afternoon. The president and members of the council will meet the team in the evening at dinner. It was decided to take the visitors on a night-seeing trip on Sunday afternoon. Mr. M. Wetherill was appointed referee for to-morrow's - match, with Messrs. W. G. Caddy and T. Cottingham as line umpires. Mr. P. Rogers will control the match between Western Suburbs and Newton Rangers on Wednesday. Mr. George Asher, of Tuakau, officially reported the formation of the Waikato Maori Rugby League, and recommended the early calling together of the delegates who -would form the proposed Maori Advisory Board to work under the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Council for the control of matches for the Waitangi Shield. The Waikato League withdrew its challenge for the shield in favour of the game being played against Taranaki (holders) at New Plymouth on Saturday, on the understanding that the Waikato team played the winners on October 6. Reinstatements were approved as follows: —T. Leach, S. Carter and A. J. Kennedy (West Coast).
