ATHENIAN CLUB. A realistic setting comprised "A Day on the Farm," presented by Mr. Percy Dawes, as the entertainment for the Athenian Cftib social gathering, held in the Operatic Society's Hall on Saturday evening. The stage was set with a barn, and trees, on which wore cockatoos and other birds, ducks on a pond, and a liorse grazing near a Dawn opened the setting, with the host, Farmer Giles, coming in complete costume swinging an old-fashioned lamp. Novelties were presented to all the guests, and included sun bonnets, luncheon baskets containing beer and sandwiches (the latter being cakes of soap, sweets in peggy bags, and many other trifles). Appropriate music was rendered by the orchestra, which featured "The Old Grey Mare" and ''Down on the Farm." The opening number was a dance given by Messrs. J. Smith and C. Scale, who represented the horse. Other enjoyable items were rendered by Misses Sarah Stacpoole, Doris Bransgrove, Messrs. I\. Simmere, G. Stark, R. Sharpc and Purdie. Mr. Stan Asqultli rendered the impersonations in the opening scene.

The Overseas League held a successful bridge and mall jong evening in its clubroonis on Saturday. The bridge, prize winners were Mrs. A. M. A PRESENTATION. Miss Elsie Walker was the recipient of a tea and coffee service on the eve of ;her leaving the staff of the New Zealand Shipping Company in view of her approaching marriage. In making the presentation oil Friday evening, the manager, Mr. F. H. Gifforcl, on behalf of the staff aiul a number of business associates, wished her every happiness. Miss Walker suitably responded.* Last Wednesday evening Miss Walker was entertained by the lady members of the staff in tho social room, and received a crystal vase.
