ATHLETICS.
OTAHUHU CLUB FORMED. Last season a branch of the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club was formed in Otahuhu, and so successful did this prove that steps have now been taken to form a separate club. For this purpose a meeting was held last evening, the attendance bein« excellent. Messrs. Towers and Tipping of the Auckland Centre were present and addressed the meeting. It was unanimously decidcd to form a club, to bo known as the Otahuhu Amateur Athletic Club, the colours to be royal blue with a golden O on the front of die singlet. Application for affiliation i s to be made immediately to the Auckland Centre. It is the intention of the new club to run a series of evening meetings 011 Sturgess Park, which is being electrically floodlighted. The question of holding a club meeting on Labour Day wps discussed and is to be finalised by the committee. ✓ Keen interest in the formation of ths committee wag taken, in three instances! ballots being necessary. The following were elected:—Patron, Mr. W. W. Massey,! M.P.; president. Mr. F. W. Grey; viae-| presidents, to be elected bv committee; secretary, Mr. C. Porter; club captain, Mr. S. Andrew; delegate to centre, Mr. W. Whitmore; handicapper, Mr. W. Whitmore; lion, auditor, Mr. E. F. W. Wood; starter, Mr. W. Arnold; committee, Messrs. F. Arnold, W. Arnold, J. Clark, T. Faithful, \V. Kirkwood, A. Murdoch, J. A. Sinclair and W. Whitmore. A resolution expressing appreciation of the excellent service rendered to athletics by Mr. A. Murdoch, who has been an inmate of a private hospital for the past few weeks, was passed, and the hope expressed for bis early recovery. The Auckland Club was also thanked for the assistance lent last year.
