WEEK STARTS BRIGHTLY. INSURANCES ARE SELLiNG. There was less hesitation on the Auckland Stock Exchange than is usual on a Monday morning, and a good list o£ sales ■was put through at the first call. The market seemed buoyant, bidding was general and business covered a good range. No Government stocks changed hands, but this was duo to the abscncc of sellers, All issues Merc in request, and the only lot on offer was a parcel of '40's, for which the owner asked 108 10/. The insurance section retained last ■week's firmness, and after sales ot National at £1 0/3 and of Standards at £3 7/, there were still buyers left in for all lines. Farmers' .Auctioneering shares were again in request, and a parcel of the ordinary shares paid to £2 was available at £1 5/. Banks were steady, and Commercials improved a penny with a sale at 16/1, after which the market was close between 16/ and 18/1. Bank Shares Firm. The firming tendency noticeable recently in bank shares was reflected in the noon Bales. New South Wales had two more transactions at Saturday's level, and Commercials were still in demand at 16/1 after further business. Higher offers were made for Devonport Ferries, Consolidated Bricks and New Zealand Refrigerating shares. Sellers of Kauri Timbers raised their limits a penny, to 18/4, following a morning transfer. In the unlisted section both issues of Auckland Farmers' Freezing were traded at par value. COMPLETED. AT THE 10 A.M. CALL TO-DAY— Last Sale. £8d £ s d Com. Bank . 016 -1 ... 0 16 O Nat.
