CANTERBURY MARKETS.
SHIPMENTS OF POTATOES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The shipments of potatoes which went north this week constitute a weekly record for some years. The mid-week vessel, the Waipiata, lifted a little more than 11,000 sacks from Timaru and Lyttelton, and the 'Waimarino yeaterday followed with 1700 sacks from Timaru and something more than 6000 from Lvttelton. This represents approximately 19.000 sacks. The Auckland market was very brisk, but a quantity like that shipped is likelv to supply the needs well on into the third week in September. The market naturally has received a setback and no business is being one. Quotations nominally are 55/ to £2 17/6 per ton f.0.b., sacks included, and to farmers 35/ to £1 17/6. There has been a spurt in the Garten oats market because of the continuance of inquiry from England and a shipment of 3000 sacks from southern ports by the Tekoa. More are being shipped next week. Inquiry so far is for A Gartons. Values are, f.0.b., sacks included, 2/9. B Gartons are worth to 2/5 f.0.b., sacks included. It is believed that there are not many Gartons in stock in North Canterbury, the bulk being Algerians, so that the trade is likely to be confined to the south. Values on trucks for A's are 2/ to 2/2. The fowl wheat market is verv firm, quotations being 3/9 f.0.b., sacks extra. The partridge peas market is unchanged. On truck values are 4/6 per bushel. | There is a little more interest developing in the small seeds market. Recent quotations are firm. Milling wheat tarns a further increase of a halfpenny per bushel from September 1, this being the price of the final advance for the season, the prices (interim) being f.0.b.. growers nearest the port now asking for Tuscan 3/11, Hunter's 4/1, pearl 4/3.
