Mr. J. C. Grierson left last night far Wellington. Mr. R. A. Singer left for Wellington by the Limited last night. Mr. S. J. Harbutt returned from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr. A. Lindley, directors, of Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd., arrived in Auckland by the Limited this mo.-ning. Mr. E. Casey, assistant general manager of railways, and Mr. E. T. Spidy, general superintendent of railway workshops, left for- Wellington by the Limited last night. Mr. H. H. Lock, chairman of the.central executive of the Royal Life-saving Society, is to visit Australia and' New Zealand instead of Mr. Sydney J.- Monks, chief secretary, and is travelling by the Ormonde, due at Fremantle on September 18.

Lieutenant R. E. Wash bourn, of H.M.s. Diomedc, has been awarded the Ronald Megaw Memorial Prize for 1932-33, having obtained highest place in the lieutenant's examination. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. E. Washbourn, of Nelson.

Dr. Raymond Firth, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. B. Firth, of Auckland, has been appointed to the readership in anthropology at the London School of Economics, University of London, where lie has been lecturer in anthropology since last j - ear.
