CONFERENCE POSTPONED.
RUGBY FOOTBALL AFFAIRS. . (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, this day, Owing to the tragic death of Jack Rurn the officials decided to postpone a conference which xrds to have been held over 'the week-end between representatives of the New Zealand Rugby Union and members of the Maori race concerning various matters in connection witli Maori Rugby football in the Dominion. The chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Union, Mr. S. S. Dean,- and the vice-chairman, Mr. A. C. Kitto, arrived at Rotorua on Saturday to attend this conference and were accorded an impressive Maori welcome at Ohinemutu. The meeting was attended by representatives of all the principal tribes in the Bay of Plenty and East Coast, while the Native Minister, Sir Apirana Ngata,-and Mr. Taite Te Tomo, M.P., were also present. In the course of the welcome the broad principles of matters to be discussed by delegates were enunciated, principally by Mita Tupopoki and Ngaera Te Kotuku. However, the matters for discussion are to be reviewed at an early date in Wellington, when a conference will be held between representatives of the New Zealand Rugby Union and the Maori Advisory Board. The proposals formulated at this meeting will be submitted to the interested unions. ■•
