VISITING GOLFERS.

U.S. PLAYERS FOR AUSTRALIA,

(Received 11 a.m.) HAWTHORNE (N.J.), August 28,

Mr. George Jacobus, president of the American Professional Golfers' Association, in an interview with the Australian Press Association, emphatically denied reports that no American golfers had definitely decided to participate in the Centenary championships. He said his association would positively send five players, including Paul Runyan, who had definitely elected to accept, and a sixth player would be named within a week, by which time the list would be published.

Mr. Jacobus added that he was authorised to make, and had already made, tentative bookings for the team to sail from San Pedro by the Mariposa on October 17. He said he understood Gene Sarazcn was unable to make the trip on account of professional engagements. Joe Kirkwood was not selected by the Golf Association Committee, and whether or not he would make the trip on his individual initiative was not known, but it was thought unlikely. Olin Dutra, the open champion, had been invited, but was unable to participate in tho trip because of physical ailments he suffered at the time he won the championship.

Mr. Jacobus asked the Australian Press Association to quote him as saying that the team selected would be an exceptionally strong one.
