WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
PAPAROA. The August meeting of the Paparoa Women's Institute was held in the Garrison Hall, Mrs. Aickin presiding. Mrs. Appleyard and Miss Spick, both of Mareretu Institute, gave demonstrations, the former on the making of vases from the trunk of the ponga {fee fern, and the latter on the making of baskets from pine needles. The results of the competitions were as follow: Wool work (raw), Mrs. A. Martin 1; Mre. Ariell 2; manufactured, Mrs. E. G. Aickin 1 and 2; sponge sandwich, Miss S. Cliff 1, Mrs. D. Fenwick 2. ■WAIMATJKU. There was only a fair attendance of members at the meeting of the Waimauku Women's Institute, owing to extremely bad weather. Mies Fountain (Auckland) gave an address on "The Women and Children of India." A demonstration of paper flower making was given by Mrs. Hunt, of Albany. Mrs. A. Hunt was the winner of the competition for spring flowers, and Mrs. Lance Kerr-Taylor won the firat prize for pikelets. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. D. Kilgour and Miss M. Lennox.
k COROMANDEL. The August meeting (open night) took the form of a concert and dance, when a sum of about £15 was raised. The proceeds from the trading stall and competitions are to be donated towards the school dental clinic funds. The opening item was contributed by the Coromaridel Silver Band, followed by an amusing sketch by Mrs. Harris and junior members. "A Musical Evening," consisted of choruses and recitations by members, and community singing. "The Family Group," a playlet acted by Mesdames Woodhouse, Harris, Ward and Strongman, and Misses Basley and Finan, was a great success. Supper was served to the visitors, and dancing followed till midnight, the winners in the Monte Carlo being ML>s Dick and Mr. K. McNeil.
