RESISTED CONSTABLE.
LABOURER'S EXCUSE FAILS.
Charges of drunkenness in Welle*ley Street, breach of his prohibition order and resisting Constable Brown while in the execution of his duty were preferred against John Henry Mitchell (27), labourer, in the Police Court to-day. Mitchell admitted the first two charges, but denied resisting, explaining that he slipped on the wet pavement, and. upset the constable accidentally. The conetable eaid that Mitchell resisted violently for five minutes until placed in a cab. Mitchell was fined 5/ or 24 hours' imprisonment for drunkenness, £1 or 48 hours for breach of his order, and £4 or 14 days for resisting, the magistrate remarking that resisting the police was a eerious matter. Time to pay tha fines was refused.
