SENT TO PRISON.
SEAMAN WITH A LONG LIST.
LENGTHY TERM ORDERED.
"This man has done no work for years. He sleeps in a timber yard, is usually in a filthy condition, and drinks methylated spirits," said a constable, in the Police Court this morning in giving evidence against Charlee McGeahan, seaman, aged 03, charged with being an incorrigible rogue with insufficient means of support. McGeahan was further charged with mischief by wilfully damaging a rope, valued at 2/. He denied both charges. Evidence was given by the owner of a fishing launch that McGeahan had cut the rope which secured tho vessel to the wharf. This McGeahan hotly denied, adding that he was merely repairing the rope. Inspector Edwards Raid McGeahan had 122 previous convictions, mostly for dniukennees and vagrancy, and that he iir*t appeared in Court 40 years ago. "You will be better off in gaol, where yon will at least be kent clean and will net proper meals," said Mr. MeKean, S.M.. ill consigning McGeahan to prison for 12 months on the vagrancy -charge.
