MARISTS IN THE PICTURE.
City Rovers dropped badly out of the poultry (|uest when they went to pieces ueainst the rugged and' youthful Marist team, so brilliantly genernlled by Brisbane. The red and blacks sadly missed their warrior full-back, Watene, whoso place was taken by Hughes. The substitute proved a complete failure, and tlna no doubt upset the side as a whole, though it regained its confidence, and before tho close threatened to snatch the lead. The Old Boys merited the win on their consistency, and their many supporters will be delighted to hear that the club has qualified for the Koope Koostor final. Thus the loyalty of the boys to the club, following early season troubles, has been handsomely rewarded. Campbell was wonderful at full-back. He did some things that seemed incredible in the way of handling and kickIng the greasy ball. The three-quarter line was aggressive, with Furlonger at his best; Loader was a trifle unsteady on defence. Brisbane was always in the firing line, and his fine try showed that he has struck form. Nothing was better in the contest than the exhibition of Glover, who is another colt marked for higher honours. Under the eye of his International associate, Glover hns developed remarkably, and his nil-round work was excellent Grotte, at half-back, served his backs well, and tackled capably. Tho packs were well matched, with Marist enjoying scrum preeminence, thanks to weight and the skill of O Kane. Baknllch was a splendid breakaway, and his work in the looge was more than that of a mere opportunist. Laird, Ciarko and Keane were trojans in the tight wor.c, being equalled by Clarke, Saunders and Nathan of City. Wiberg, McLaiiffhlin Johnson and Purdy were the hacks who made best showings. The team was in winning vein eventually,, when some attractive attacks were launched, but the effort was lett too late. Marists will take a deal of beating in tho final.
