LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
AFFAIRS OF REFEREES. At the meeting of the Auckland Referees' Association last evening, Mr. L. Bull presiding, members expressed pleasure at the scale of out-oi'-pocket travelling allowances agreed upon by the control board as submitted by the executive. Mr. S. Billman's notice of motion dealing with membership qualifications was withdrawn, with the permission of the seconder. The chairman reported that the council had asked the New Zealand Referees' Association, to .submit the names of referees, with a view to selection for the interisland match. The official critic, Mr. J. T. Hill, gave a talk on the performances of last week, with general advice. The desirability of forming an examination committee to deal with new candidates, and thereby assist the grading and appointments board, was discussed and will be further dealt with. Messrs. T. Mann and F. Brady were nominated for membership. THIRD OPEN HONOURS. By defeating Akarana on Saturday by 28 to 10, Richmond gained the third open championship. This game, on No. 4 ground at the Domain, attracted considerable attention, the winners showing fine combination and form. ROOPE ROOSTER KNOCK-OUT. With the Auckland championship now decided and the reserve grade etill to be finalised, much interest centres on the opening of the Roope Rooster competitions, to be commenced on Saturday. It is reported that there is a prospect of at least two new teams participating, including Mount Albert. Nominations close to-morrow evening. SOUTH AUCKLAND V. NORTHLAND.
