MOTHERS' CLUB.

The Mothers' Club, Y.W.C.A., held its, I usual .weekly meeting last week, Mrs. C. Dickens presiding. The retiring sec; rotary, Mrs. Hynes, was the recipient of a useful present from the club, in recognition of her valuable services. Items were Riven by Mesdames Young, Collier and Mann, and Miss Morris. Tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Jcpson, Day and Woolnough.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTES. BUCKLAND. An interesting demonstration of pewter work was given at the last meeting of the Buckland Institute. The winner of the competition, "A thrift article," was Miss Piggot. WAITEMATA-MATAHURU. The monthly meeting was held in the .Golf Club house, about 25 members attending. The president, Mrs. R. Grundy, was in the chair. A competition, "Jumbled words," was won by Mrs. C. C. Hawken. Later a dainty luncheon was served. Hostesses for the day were Mesdames W Neale and S. W. lies. NEW LYNN. New Lynn had a busy afternoon recently. Mrs. Howson gave a report on the Dominion conference. Members were invited to discuss the birthday evening, which takes the form of a fancy dress ball. It was decided that the function be held in September. HENDERSON. At the last monthly meeting Mrs. Loring presided. The president intimated tliat the first meeting of the Western Suburbs group would be held in the Henderson Town Hall on September 11. Miss Ellis read a report of the Wellington conference, which she attended as "delegate. Mrs. Davison gave a talk and demonstration of the making of tapestry. The flower competition was won by Mrs Carter, with Mrs. Mortlock second and Mrs. Morris third. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Cossey. TTJRANGAARERE. There was a good attendance at the last meeting of the institute, Mrs. Bartell presiding. The motto for the day was supplied by Miss M. Pohe. The moccasin competition, which was judged by Mrs. Bourne, a visiting member was won by Mrs. Pohe, with Mrs. Millan second. "What the Husbands Think of the Institute" was recited by Miss P. Egan. The Maori members, assisted by their men folk, entertained for half an hour with action songs and hakas at the institute dance WAITOA. The monthlv meeting of the Waitoa Women's Institute was held in the Y.M.C.A. last week, Mrs. Fleming presiding A demonstration on the preserving of lemon and orange peel was given by Mrs. Hansen, and a travel.talk was given by Mrs. Blooomfield. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames McLaren, McLean, Lambie, Williams, Vercoe and Lewis. BROWN'S BAY. At the usual monthly meeting, Miss Morgan presided over a large attendance of members and friends. Mrs. Hunt gave a demonstration of icing, transforming a plain iced cake into a beautiful and artistic confection. The competition, woollen knitted squares to be joined tor a quilt, was won by Mrs. Mitchell, and, the roll call, "The uses of olive oil, brought forth many useful hints. Mesdames Mullenger and Wilkinson were the hostesses. HELENSVILLE. A largely attended meeting of the Helensvillo'Women's Institute was held in the Lyric Theatre this week. Mrs. J F Lambert presided, and introduced the speaker, Mrs. Tattersfield, of Mount Albert, the subject of her address being "Rock gardens and the flowers that grow on them." A vocal solo by Mrs. Newman was much enjoyed, as was also a pianoforte solo by Miss Morris. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames R. Smith, G. Lowe, R. Sellars, V. Raines, and M. Rimmer.
