KNOCKED DOWN BY TRAM
MAX'S UMBRELLA CAUGHT
Mr. William Arthur Bunker, aged 73, of 72, Ponsonby Koad, dieu in the Auckland Hospital on Saturday evening of the injuries he received when he was knocked down by a tram in the morning.
Mr. Bunker had come to be known in the city partly by the fact that he always" carried* an umbrella. During a heavy rain squall on tho Saturday morning, he was crossing the tram lines in Ponsonby Road. He failed to notice an oncoming car; his umbrella caught in the superstructure and he was thrown to the ground. The inquest, opened yesterday before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., was adjourned after evidence of identification had been taki i.
Mr. Bunker arrived in Auckland with his parents some 00 years ago. Ho took up the tailoring trade", and was a partner in a firm in Queen Stree , : until alwut 10 years ago, when he retired. Mrs. Bunker died some sir years ago. There is one daughter, Mrs. J. H. Reid, ind four sons, Messrs. C. Bunker, of Hamilton, Messrs. W. Bunker, of Sydney, A. W. Bunker and E. C. B. Bunker, of Auckland.
