ACCIDENTAL DEATH.
TRAGIC CRASH AT HENDON. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, July 23. Returning a verdict of accidental death at the inquest on Squadron-Leader Collett, son of the Lord Mayor.of London, who was killed in a tragic crash at the air pageant at Hendon on June 30, the jury said that no one was to blame. They were perfectly satisfied of the competence of the pilot.
An Air Ministry official \ suggested hat the pilot accidentally shut off the >etrol cock with his knee. Precautions, io stated, were being' taken to prevent i. recurrence of such accidents. The crash occurred during formation lying, while a squadron was circling over he crowd of 60,000. Deceased's engine uddenly cut out and the 'plane, a lawker Hart, dashed to earth. TO FOLLOW COOK. Australian Sailor-Author's Project. MANY WOMEN VOLUNTEERS. (Received 11.30 n.m.) LONDON, July 23. Mr. Alan Villiers, the noted author and sailor, is planning to circumnavigate the globe, following the tracks of Captain Cook's first voyage. He will sail from Plymouth in October in the Joseph Conrad and hopes to reach Australia in April. He said he had been overwhelmed, with applications to join tho crew, especially from girls. "It seems that women under 20 are more adventurous than boys," lie said. "I have letters from women aged 13 to 73." FIREMEN DEAD. OIL BARGE WRECKED. (Received 12.30 p.m.) TORONTO, July 23. Two firemen are dead and four are missing, while 12 workers" were injured when a blast wrecked an oil barge in the harbour, while a fireman was making an inspection after a small fire had been extinguished. The barge sank. VAST INUNDATIONS. FLOODS IN SOUTH KOREA. TOKYO, July 23. Vast inundations are reported to have occurred in South Korea. Much damage to property has been caused and 17 people have been drowned. i
