THE DEAN OF ST. PAUL'S.
Mr. H. Mulvihill attacked (he Beau of St. Paul's and called him a "shallow reasoncr." In answer to my question he has candidly/ admitted that he has not read the books which Dean Inge has written; yet, despite this fact, he is prepared to embark on sweeping generalisations about the Dean's ability as a reasoncr, about his theological, philosophical, ethical and scientific views. I can truthfully say that I have read every word Dean Inge has written, so I think your readers will draw their own conclusions as to which of us lias the best right to aii opinion on this subject. With regard to Mr. MulvihiU's opinions on numerous other subjects, such as Eton College, Cainbridge University. Home Rule, the Church of England and Henry VIII. and the gods of the Englishman, etc., I have no desire to enter into controversy with him: before doing so I would want to be assured that he was more competent to discuss them than he is to discuss tho Dean of St. Paul's. King's College. H. K. ARCH DALL.
