INSURANCES MOVE UP. HIGHER OFFERS FOR GOVERNMENTS. Insurance shares were firmer in value to-day, and South British had a transaction at £4 for the first time since early June. More were wanted at the newlevel, -while sellers were (3d higher. New Zealands, with a dividend and bonus only a mouth ahead, were more tightly held, and sellers were 9d higher, at *>4 V, while best buyers tins monung stood at Banking scrip was offered freely by holders, but buyers showed little interest, the only bids being 15/7 tor Commercials, for which sellers asked 15/11, and i- V for New Zealands, with sellers at £2 8/0. The feature of the noon call was the firmness of Government issues. There was a sale reported of 1055, 4 per cent stock at £7 5/ above par. Other lines are quieter. Bidders for National Insurances arc converging. Buyers will give ,19/4, with holders steady at Id ahead. ibis is a lower standard than the last sale in June, which was £1. , , ... New Zealand Breweries firmed a little. Buyers rose 3d, to £2 4/0, while a seller came forward at £2 5/. Colonial Sugars cased half a. crown.
