SENT FOR TRIAL.
LABOURER IN CANTERBURY.
ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. After all the evidence had been heard to-day relating to the charge of attempted murder, Arnold Spencer Wilson, aged 2,"), labourer, pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The charge heard in the Police Court was a sequel to an alleged hold-up of a van driver, Herbert "Barrogel Kissel, on Newton's Road, Weedons, between Templeton and West Melton, on April 10. ' A wire had been placed across the road, and it is alleged that after Kissel had removed it, and was driving off, a bullet was fired at him from cover of a hedge. The bullet lodged in the door of the van, and Kissel was not hurt. Chief Detective Dunlop represented the police, and Mr. Russell appeared for accused. Further evidence hoard this afternoon included that of William A. Downing, shop assistant, Christchurch, who said that on March 4 a rifle was taken from his motor car at Motunau Beach. Witness identified the rifle produced as his. Richard Sedgwick, of Motunau, said that Wilson used to frequent the beach. One Sunday witness saw Wilson leaning into a motor car standing on the park-
ing place. Norma Daly, a schoolgirl, gave evidence of finding a rifle in tlie chimney at Weedons railway station. Professor Powell, of Canterbury College, said that from tests made he was satisfied that the bullet in the van had been fired from the rifle handed him by the police. Detective Thompson told of an interview with Wilson at Paparua prison, where he is at present serving a sentence. Wilson denied his guilt, but also said, "If I am found guilty of this, what will I get? And will it wipe out. the sentence I am at present serving?"
