A message from South Bend, Indiana, states that after several weeks in hiding, the notorious escaped prisoner John Dillinger, made another of his sensational forays yesterday with three companions. The four men, all armed with macliine-guns, invaded the Merchants National Bank and stole 30,000 dollars in cash. They followed their usual practice of holding bank employees before them as human shields against the police, but the latter started firing. The gangsters responded with a blast of machine-gun fire which instantly killed a policeman and wounded several bystanders. Dillinger and his companions then escaped' in a fast motor car.
